Massachusetts SB 1558: Signed Into Law — What to Do Now

MASSACHUSETTS SB 1558 SIGNED: January 23, 2026 Employers with 25+ employees Salary range required in all postings Remote roles included Salary history questions prohibited Effective: August 1, 2026 GOVERNOR HEALEY

Massachusetts Governor Healey signed SB 1558 on January 23, 2026. Employers with 25 or more employees must include salary ranges in all job postings from August 1, 2026. With a major tech, finance, and biotech sector, Massachusetts's new law is one of the most consequential state laws to pass in recent years.

Key requirements

"Massachusetts is the 10th active US pay transparency jurisdiction. Its August 2026 deadline gives employers time to prepare — but preparation should start now."

How it differs from other states

Unlike Colorado and Washington, Massachusetts does not require benefits or bonus disclosure in the posting — only the salary range. A Colorado-compliant posting will automatically satisfy Massachusetts, but not vice versa.

Massachusetts deadline is August 2026. Set up Role Canary now to be ready.
